The TEF is an international benchmark test that measures your level of knowledge and skills in French. 

Awarded by the CCIP (Paris Chamber of Commerce), this exam is often required to be admitted into universities and is recognized by the Federal government of Canada as a proof of fluency in immigration procedures.

  • No prior degree is required to sit the exam
  • Conducted electronically (computer-based)
  • Use a scale of 7 levels that range from A1.1 level ( beginner ) to C2 ( complete control )
  • The candidate must be 16 years old and up
  • Valid for two years

    Before enrolling, you must read and understand the conditions of enrolment.

    1. Fill in the TEF registration form.
    2. Provide a copy of ID (driving licence or passport).
    3. Send everything by email to information@alliance-francaise.co.nz                                                                                               (or bring all documents to our office).
    4. Make your payment by clicking on the prices below or come at our office.

    FAQ about the TEF

    How long does it take to reach the intermediate level (B1) if I never learnt French before?
    According to the CECRL, it usually takes between 350 and 400 hours of learning. The fastest way to reach this level with Alliance Française Auckland is to take private lessons.

    How can I prepare for this test ?
    The best way to get ready for this exam is to take our general French programs.

    How long does it takes to take the exam?
    Between 2 and 4 hours, depending on if you are attending the writing production and the oral production exams.

    How many times can I attend this test ?
    If desired, the candidate may take the test as much as he/she wants. However, a 60 days waiting period is required between two successive sessions.

    What does happen after I took the test ?
    After the test and its correction, a certificate of results, showing the score of each section, is mailed to the applicant. Usually, the candidates receive their certificates between 3 and 6 weeks after attending their test.

    How long is the TEF certificate valid ?
    Two years.
